One of the best afternoons of my life was spent with bison expert, Wes Olsen, watching these wondrous animals at Grasslands National Park. A hot August afternoon, Olsen drove me into the back country where we sat atop a Butte, binoculars in hand, and watched his herd in the coulee below. Olsen was the foster-father of the project, and reintroduced the herd and cared for them until he retired. And no, you do NOT want to get up close and personal to these fabulous creatures!

A significant omission from the program notes from the RSO performance of Riel’s Heart of the North was that of naming my editor Virginia Durksen, an integral part of our team. Virginia has been working with me on the script for over a year, having heard my cry in the wilderness. Her analysis of the script, her nudging me in the right direction, and her throwing the lifeline of sanity have all been above and beyond the duty.
